Finnebrogue Artisan Signs Up to Support Rural Christmas Charity Initiative

28/12/2016

Finnebrogue Artisan joins Rural Support and Simple Power to Spread Festive Cheer to Rural Families in Need

Finnebrogue Artisan based in Downpatrick, has generously donated produce to wind energy company, Simple Power and farming and rural charity, Rural Support’s fourth annual ‘Christmas Hamper Scheme’, aimed at helping hard-hit rural and farming families this Christmas.

Finnebrogue united with over 20 other agri-companies to share the success of Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and Drink with those in need. This generosity enabled the charity to deliver over 100 hampers to farming and rural families this Christmas.

Finnebrogue’s generous donation of Good Little Company and Rankin Selection sausages has helped to ensure Rural Support can provide even more families in need of extra Christmas cheer during Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and Drink.

Rural Support’s Chief Executive, Jude McCann, commented, “I’m delighted with the support from Finnebrogue and would like to sincerely thank them for their very generous donation. This year has been particularly tough for Northern Ireland’s farming community with the agricultural downturn having an impact on commodity prices. The kindness and efforts of Finnebrogue, Simple Power, and the other local companies are much appreciated and will go a long way in taking some of the pressure off hard-hit families.”

Finnebrogue Chairman, Denis Lynn, commented, “We are delighted to take part in this year’s Rural Support Christmas Hamper appeal. Christmas is such an important time for families and can be very costly to those already experiencing difficulties.

“Rural Support is a very valuable service that provides a fantastic job throughout the year connecting with rural familes in need and providing them with support. We hope each Christmas hamper provided help bring some festive joy to the family’s table,” added Mr Lynn.

This year’s Christmas Hamper Appeal included generous donations from Cavanagh Eggs, CavanaghKelly, Clandeboye Estate Yoghurt, Cookstown, DJ’s Apple Juice, Farmlay Eggs, Fresh Fields, Gilfresh Produce, Kerry Food Group,  Kestrel Foods, Mash Direct, Moy Park, Punjana Tea, SH Long Produce, South Antrim Community Network, Tayto, Tesco NI, Finnebrogue Artisan, Ulster Farmers’ Union, White’s Oats and Wilson’s Country.

Rural Support helps farming and rural families across Northern Ireland on a wide range of issues, from farm business and financial issues to concerns about physical and mental health. The charity provides support for the rural community through a helpline offering a listening and signposting service.

Should we ‘celebrate’ or ‘demonstrate’ support for Earth Day?

On April 22, 1970, the first Earth Day started out as a protest, demanding action for a common cause – save the Planet to save life. But some argue that it has become greenwashed with commercialism like any other hallmark holiday.   Is that a bad thing – if it’s raising…
