I started an apprenticeship in Engineering with Finnebrogue Artisan in September 2018, which included one day per week at college. I developed practical skills in welding, fabrication and machining – and worked towards a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Engineering and an ETA Level 2 NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations.
Finnebrogue were very supportive throughout the apprenticeship and encouraged me to continue with my training. I have already gained a BTEC Engineering – Level 3, a Pearson BTEC HND in Engineering – Level 4 and a Foundation Degree in Mechatronics – Level 5. I am currently working towards a Masters degree. With each year, I also received a pay rise so you are literally earning while you learn.
I would recommend anyone – no matter your age or education – to consider an apprenticeship. Even if you don’t have passes in GCSE Maths and English, you’ll have the opportunity to gain Essential Skills to Level 2 in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT, as part of the programme.
