NI Fire Service simulates major incident at Finnebrogue site

04/04/2023

Northern Ireland food producer, Finnebrogue Artisan, recently hosted a training evening for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service. Twelve officers and training staff attended the site in two fire appliances and participated a simulated emergency.

During the evening, Finnebrogue’s emergency response procedures were used to create a scenario where officers responded to a major incident, requiring the simulated evacuation of casualties from the factory site.

Using two-person teams, the emergency services entered the site and conducted a search and rescue operation where two simulated casualties were located on the roof and plant areas by officers using full breathing apparatus.

Commenting on the event, Richard Barnes, Group Health, Safety & Environment Manager at Finnebrogue said:

“The exercise was a great success and we were able to use the experience to increase our understanding of what is needed by the fire service while attending our site. The officers were also able to increase their understanding of our systems and control measures.”
