Finnebrogue secures festive lines national supply deal with Asda

17/12/2019

DOWNPATRICK-based Finnebrogue Artisan has won a national supply deal with Asda to produce 10 special Christmas lines, which will be available in its 578 UK-wide stores.

Six of the 10 products have been created especially for this Christmas, including a range of vegan products – stuffing balls, cocktail sausages and a vegan Wellington centre piece.

Other new products for this year include pork & red onion cocktail sausages, pork, sage & onion balls and the BBC Good Food & Good Housekeeping award-winning pigs in blankets festive feast stuffing centre piece.

Due to shopper demand, Asda has brought back four lines produced last year by Finnebrogue such as pork, sage & onion stuffing, pork cocktail sausages, sausage meat and bacon & chestnut stuffing.

The deal builds on Asda and Finnebrogue’s existing relationship, which has seen the family business supply sausages to the retailer since 2014.

John Cowen, Finnebrogue’s account manager for Asda, said: “We’re pleased to grow our long-standing relationship with Asda through the development of products for this year’s extra special Christmas range.

“We pride ourselves on innovation and are confident customers will love these new festive products and flavours, which cater to everyone at the Christmas table.”

Asda’s NI regional buying manager Emma Swan added: “We work alongside suppliers to create innovative, affordable, delicious and high-quality products, and this year’s Extra Special Christmas accompaniments from Finnebrogue are no exception.”

Finnebrogue outlines progress to plastic management so far

Plastic is a serious business and Finnebrogue Artisan is a responsible business. Here, the company outline it's progress to date on managing plastic within operations and food packaging: In 2019,  Finnebrogue moved away from unrecyclable black plastic trays to 100% recycled and recyclable alternatives. In 2021,  the company committed to two targets by 2025: 100% of packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable; and they'll have 50% average recycled content across all plastic packaging. Engagement with suppliers is ongoing - to help manage and reduce plastic coming into the factories. Jan - September 2022: Finnebrogue engaged Responsible Plastic Management Group to support their journey. The business recycled 20 tonnes of plastic, mainly from the tubs, lids and wrapping received from suppliers. This plastic was cleaned, shredded and granulated before being turned back into raw material for moulding. The business has introduced recycling bins across all departments in all four sites, which helps them to retain their zero to landfill success. Sourcing a recyclable film for trays (that's fit for purpose) remains a key focus for the food industry - and the business continues to engage with its suppliers to achieve this. Did you know plastic recycling facilities are located at high street supermarkets : Soft plastics: Asda, Co-op, Morrisons, Tesco Flexible plastics: Sainsburys, Waitrose
